Sven Göran Eriksson

Sven-Göran Eriksson born 5 February 1948, in Sunne, Värmland, Sweden.

Commonly referred to just by his nickname Svennis, has links with Degerfors IF. He was forced to retire in 1975, from an injury, after playing in the Swedish lower leagues. After retirement, Eriksson received an offer to become Tord Grip's assistant at Degerfors IF, 1975.

1976 Grip was appointed Assistant Manager of the Swedish national team, and Eriksson became Degerfors IF’s Manager, winning promotion to Division 2 in 1978.

Eriksson joined IFK Göteborg and led them to their greatest success by winning the UEFA Cup in 1982. In the same year they also won the Swedish League & Cup double. He is the only Coach ever to have won the double in three different countries, Sweden, Portugal & Italy 

Moved in 1982 to SL Benefica. After two league victories in Portugal, he moved to Italy & AS Roma. After that he went on to be Head Coach for AC Fiorentina & UC Sampdoria. To crown his sojourn in Italy SS Lazio, under his leadership won the European Cup Winner’s Cup in 1999 (final year of that competition). Also won Serie A, in 2000, their first Scudetto since 1974. ¢In Jan 2001 he became Manager of England’s national team, leading them to the quarter finals of the World Cup 2002, European Nations Cup 2004 and again the World Cup in 2006. 2007-08 was Manager of Manchester City, 2008-09 the Mexican National Coach and from July 2009 until early 2010 Director of Football at Notts County. Tord Grip co worked with him in different capacities, from their period together at Lazio, until Notts County.
